I looked forward to each additional part of this three-part series. I’ve been reading the analog versions of your missives for years now. In the middle of seemingly hundreds of emails and tough days, I would inevitably take time out and stop what I was doing to read what you’ve shared. These new substack writings, with all the bells and whistles including links to music I usually forgotten or sometimes never heard before, make it all the better. But what really sends me is your way with words, causing me to laugh out loud and revel in the twist of language you so readily dance. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts as you drive the roads and pierce through the clouds in your travels around this blue planet. Wish we were there!
Great seeing you at Skippers....first time seeing you solo and it was a masterclass....looking forward to seeing you back in Taliban territory (you gotta admit though, we have better trucks) at Stringbreak....Cheers

I had a mild acquaintance with the late George “Commander
Cody” Frayne, acquainted enough that when we were
on the same bill (Rick & Ruby opened for him a few
times) he would invite me to sit in so he could go
downstage and just be lead singer for a song or two.
At North Hollywood’s legendary Palomino club, he
had me sit in on “Riot In Cell Black No. 9,” to which the
Airmen had added a verse that somehow referenced
quaaludes, and when they got to that part, everyone on
stage (which that night also included Emmylou Harris)
started rolling around the floor.
So, thanks to George, I can in all honesty claim to have
once rolled around on the floor with Emmylou Harris.
But I won’t.
