It's a great story, Chuck. Was impressed that you've not let this experience stop you leaving the guitar on stage, ready for action, pre-show. This allowed me (and others) to get some indulgent close up photos of an iconic Telecaster, at the Sheffield gig last year! 😎
Hi from Denmark, Chuck. God I love that story - and that guitar of yours. Guess I met it in Odense at Dexters last you were there. Great concert but I missed Stephanie that night.
I know you'll be here - in Copenhagen - this summer, but we can't make unfortunately. My wife is a great fan of you as I am and has been been since you joined The Green On Red so many, many years ago. And I've got all your albums and they are treasures in my oversize collection of vinyl's and cd's. Hope to see you another time - and please make that be in Aarhus, DK. Love from Werner
Hey, this would make for a good story on stage before song............?also I remember your somber mood that night in Portland, I was there. My name is Mike, but not THAT Mike mind you. Carry on.
My cheapest and oldest guitar is an acoustic '77 Ibanez, a Dove-copy. I could'nt afford the real thing then so i setteld with this one. I's all solid mahogany and it has really opened up and sounds great. Not like the guitars i bought later on (when i could afford to buy the "real" ones..). Except for that first one, all my guitars are replacable. However, the Ibanez is not. If it got stolen i would do anything to get it back (except calling DT for help) so i guess i can imagine the panic your felt at that time.
PS: saw you're touring again "overthere" so i got myself some tickets for your show on december 1st in Amsterdam, Bitterzoet (nice venue!). Looking forward to see and hear you play again. And The Mission Express offcourse. You might consider to put Nixonland on the setlist.......
Guitar safely returned...that’s a happy ending for sure... Leo was a genius. Great story Chuck, very happy for you...certain guitars you just can’t live without
That Portland gig! If memory serves, you tussled with a black Tele all night. It was clearly a battle for the ages, but you won in a split decision. If memory serves more, there was also a short-lived drummer in the band that night. Short-lived enough that I can't find anything about him. Come on, memory.... A Portland guy? He was serviceable (serviceable in your band, the star of any other), but that night I bet it felt like you were wrestling that guitar, a drummer, and your demons for leaving the blonde in the van in the first place. I'm glad I have that gig to remember along with this legendary tale.
It almost feels like an SF rite of passage to get your Tele stolen :(
I loved you recounting this story. We heard about it here in Austin back when!
What a great happy ending... My favorite part? "It knows all the songs..."

What a good story. Gives me some hope in this mad mad world.

Did you hear the one about the guy who left his banjo in his car one night? When he got back there was a smashed window and two banjos in his car.
What a lucky man :-)
How long ago did this happen? I've seen you in Seattle the last couple of times and don't remember you telling the story during the show. Great story!
PLEASE come back to Seattle?!?
Terrific story!
Is there anyway to sneak Al up to Rio Nido ?
He doesn’t have to play he could just hang and be super badass cool.
That’s an idea! I like it.

Kara, Patrick and Tom - stalwart pals. You are so lucky! I was so happy to see the good news. And come back to Portland sometime soon.
Hi Chuck- can not wait to see you in the Lou!! Is there anything we can bring to you and the band , we would love to spoil you guys ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I had a white ‘84 Squier Strat as my main (only) guitar when I was busy doing that thing in the 80s. They certainly knew how to make them back then.
Known as the Swiss army knife of all guitars. For good reason
