I’d been meaning to dig into Fleetwood Mac V1 and wow. I didn’t know Green Manilishi is a Peter Green song! Always loved the Judas Priest live version when I was a metal head kid. Now I have a Fleetwood Mac V1 playlist. And Chicken Shack. I’d Rather Go Blind is an amazing Christine McV song.

The Ghostface Killa tune is also v good. And I recently/randomly started listening to Tupac. Dang. Some good songs there. I like 90s hip hop. But I’m old so…

I dig these man, still geeking out over the fabulous solo at the end of Mr. Mudd and Mr. Gold.I actually wasn’t familiar with Calvin Russell so I appreciate the PSA.✊

Man, you always uncover some hidden gems. Loudon Wainwright III is one of my faves, and not just cuz I am also a "III". So I got a big kick out of "Smokey Joe's Cafe". Hadn't heard that one before. Keep up keeping us up on your reports from the great out there.

Thanks for the Big Thief tune. It reminds me of a band from Athens Ga. called Cicada Rhythm. I’d really love to hear that Jim Dickinson album. I guess they didn’t print many but I’ll keep looking. Every time you write one of these it’s like listening to an old band mate or an old friend. I look forward to it so keep it up Chuck.

You're onto a really, really good thang here with this Playlist missive and earnest babble accompaniment (I had to Google that to check the spelling since it didn't look right - LOL). I want you in a small sub narrating the Marianas Trench depths of tuneage descent to us select few Captain Chuck. All aboard !

Lord knows I love a good rabbit hole and this Magic Moments piece may be more hole than dirt. Let the spelunking begin.

Thanks for keeping the music alive.

Like Julie, I have become a bit of a Big Thief fan. At Berkeley-across-the-Bay I saw an amazing thing: Adrianne called Lucinda Williams out to do two of Lu's songs together midset: then Lucinda walked off and Adrianne launched into "Minneapolis" herself at full emotional throttle. I must say the co-bill of Big Thief/Lucinda was the SECOND best band pairing on stage I've seen between the summer of 2002 and the present!

Great stuff, Chuck. I’m really enjoying “Hackney Diamonds” from the Stones. Don’t listen to the asshole reviewer at Pitchfork. Best Stones album since “Some Girls,” I tell ya!

“God put it there, God will take it away.” When we moved from the city to the burbs and had to contend with snow and leaves I would always think this. But not in such a pithy aphorism. Well said, Chuck Sr! Can't wait to dig into this playlist.

I want one of those Tav Falco picture books too, badly...this was a stellar newsletter, chock full of great music recommends and political recommends...Ghostface Killah for Supreme Court Justice! This one edition alone is worth the price of the subscription. After reading this I feel a bit like I did when I finished reading "Geek Love"...like I knew a lot more than I did before and that I was glad to know most of those things. Well done, thank you!

Hello, it’s super cool that you mention Big Thief. I saw them at rickshaw a few years back I think after their first album was recorded. They were a little shy, but their songwriting was impressive. And still is if it caught your ear. I think she is a star among all these new indie bands. And John definitely left a legacy behind. What a great spirit. Thanks for your quality writing as usual Chuck. Happy to be a member.
